Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) : is a common disorder affecting large intestine. Cramping, abdominal pain, gas, bloating, episodes of constipation or diarrhea or both are some common signs and symptoms. There isn’t a specific reason to IBS, but following factors play an important role.
Severe infection : due to episodes of diarrhea, IBS is expected. The IBS is found when there are surplus amount bacteria found in the intestine. The amount of good bacteria is lowered in people with IBS.
Inflammation in the intestines : due to the presence of IBS, people have a high quantity of immune system cells which is associated with diarrhea and pain.
Muscle contractions in the intestine : the walls of the intestines are lined with muscle which helps to move the food inside through digestive tract. Weaker contractions lead to slow passage of food causing difficulty in bowel movement and dry stools while stronger contractions causing bloating, gas, etc.
There are no such severe signs and symptoms to detect IBS. Still, some relevant symptoms can be controlled by diet management, lifestyle changes, and medications.
Gall bladder disease : The gallbladder is an organ which is located below the liver with its main function is storage of bile produced by the liver. The gallbladder disease is caused due to irritation of gallbladder walls which is called as cholecystitis. The inflammation is caused due to blockage of gallstones blocking the bile ducts leading to the small intestine.
Numerous factors lead to gallbladder diseases such as obesity, old age, family history, medications such as estrogen and diabetes-related. The gallbladder is co-related with liver, causing various diseases such as gallbladder stones, cholecystitis, biliary dyskinesia, choledocholithiasis, etc.
The first sign of gallbladder disease is pain and inflammation. The Gastroenterologist will conduct a regular abdominal checkup, followed up by x-ray and ultrasound and other imaging tests which will help get an exact picture of the situation.
The diseases are treated according to the condition which can be lifestyle changes, medications or surgery. Preventive measures include refraining from unhealthy fats, refined grains and adding more fiber to your diet, eating whole wheat grains and healthy fats.
Pancreatic diseases- Pancreatitis, the condition caused by the inflammation of the pancreas. Depending on the causes and symptoms there is two different types- acute and chronic pancreatitis. Acute pancreatitis is a sudden onset of inflammation in the pancreas which goes off after proper treatment and medications while Diabetes mellitus, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis are some of the common pancreas diseases.
Dysentery : is an intestinal infection causing severe diarrhea with blood, with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever and severe dehydration. Dysentery is a contagious disease caused due to poor hygiene and spread through contaminated food and water. Since there are different types of dysentery, the treatments depend on the diagnosis of blood and stool samples. According to the test results, whichever bacteria is present, the Gastroenterologist prescribes the medications and aftercare.
